Xinjiang, as a shining pearl in western China, has made remarkable achievements in the development of new energy in recent years

2024-09-14

According to data from the National Renewable Energy Information Center, in the first half of 2024, Xinjiang's new energy grid connection scale has jumped to the top in the country, with a new energy installed capacity of 14.08 million kilowatts, achieving a year-on-year growth of 103%. This achievement not only demonstrates Xinjiang's strong strength in the field of new energy, but also provides valuable experience and demonstration for the national and even global energy transformation.

In terms of wind power, Xinjiang relies on abundant wind energy resources to vigorously promote the construction and grid connection of wind power projects. With the continuous advancement of technology and the gradual reduction of costs, the economic and environmental benefits of wind power projects in Xinjiang are becoming increasingly prominent. According to statistics, the newly installed wind power capacity in Xinjiang reached 4.28 million kilowatts in the first half of the year, making an important contribution to the rapid growth of new energy installed capacity.

Xinjiang also performs well in photovoltaic power generation. Thanks to abundant solar energy resources and favorable policies, the photovoltaic industry in Xinjiang has rapidly emerged as another highlight in the field of new energy. In the first half of the year, the newly installed photovoltaic capacity in Xinjiang reached 9.8 million kilowatts, accounting for the majority of the new energy installed capacity. The construction and grid connection of these photovoltaic projects not only inject new impetus into the economic development of Xinjiang, but also make positive contributions to the national energy transformation and green development.

As of now, the installed capacity of new energy in Xinjiang has exceeded the milestone of 80 million kilowatts, accounting for over half of the total installed capacity of power sources in Xinjiang. Specifically, the 14 prefecture level administrative regions in Xinjiang, including prefectures, autonomous prefectures, and municipalities directly under the central government, have all reached a new energy installed capacity of over one million kilowatts. The new energy installed capacity in Hami and Changji regions has exceeded ten million kilowatts.

Hami, Zhundong, and Huanta in southern Xinjiang have built new energy bases with a capacity of tens of millions of kilowatts, which is one of Xinjiang's important achievements in the field of new energy. The completion of these three bases marks significant progress in the construction of large-scale clean energy bases in Xinjiang, and has already completed the relevant goals and tasks of "building large-scale clean energy bases in Xinjiang" in the national renewable energy "14th Five Year Plan" ahead of schedule.

The reason why Xinjiang has achieved such remarkable results in the field of new energy is due to its unique natural conditions and resource endowment. Xinjiang has a vast territory, abundant sunshine, and abundant wind energy resources, which provide a solid foundation for the development of new energy. At the same time, the Xinjiang government attaches great importance to the development of the new energy industry and has introduced a series of preferential policies and support measures, providing a favorable development environment and market opportunities for new energy enterprises. This has also attracted more and more enterprises and investors to come and lay out their business.

Since 2022, 75 heavyweight central enterprises in China, such as China National Petroleum Corporation, State Grid Corporation of China, and China Huadian Corporation, have flocked to Xinjiang for in-depth investigations, research, and business negotiations. Taking this as an opportunity, they have promoted deep cooperation between the two sides in various fields and injected strong impetus into the economic and social development of Xinjiang.

Among these enterprises, well-known corporate groups such as PetroChina and China Petroleum&Chemical Corporation have invested up to 114 billion yuan in cutting-edge fields such as oil and gas exploration and development, green hydrogen and green electricity, based on the abundant oil and gas resources in Xinjiang.

At the same time, enterprises such as State Grid, China Huadian Corporation, and State Energy Investment Corporation have turned their attention to new energy large-scale base projects, pumped storage power station projects, and other fields. In these fields, these enterprise groups have completed investments of up to 180 billion yuan.

In addition, enterprises such as China Telecom Group Co., Ltd. and China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. have actively participated in the construction of communication, railway, highway and other infrastructure in Xinjiang, completing an investment of 120 billion yuan.

On July 28th this year, at the Central Enterprise Industry Promotion Conference, Xinjiang attracted 25 central enterprises to sign 183 projects, and multiple new energy giants completed contracts with Xinjiang.

In this investment layout, the National Energy Investment Group Co., Ltd. played an active role by planning a series of 23 investment projects, covering multiple fields such as large-scale new energy base construction, with an expected total investment amount of over 200 billion yuan.

China National Petroleum Corporation plans to fully promote the implementation of 24 major projects, including new energy development and refining transformation and upgrading, in the Xinjiang region over the next three years.

The main investment direction of China Green Development Investment Group Co., Ltd. is wind and solar new energy and hotel construction projects. They plan to build 10 hotels in Kashgar, Altay and other places, as well as famous scenic spots such as Sailimu Lake and Tianshan Tianchi, to promote local economic development.

China Huadian Corporation's installed power generation capacity in Xinjiang has exceeded 23 million kilowatts, and they are responsible for providing heating support for 2.3 million users across 185 million square meters in Xinjiang. They are the largest energy generation enterprise in Xinjiang.

The strong alliance between multiple new energy giants and Xinjiang will not only bring advanced technology and management experience, but also promote the improvement and development of the local new energy industry chain. Through the implementation of the project, Xinjiang will further accelerate the development and utilization of renewable energy such as wind and solar energy, promote the energy production and consumption revolution, and provide clean, safe, and reliable energy security for economic and social development.

In addition, the signing of these projects will bring more employment opportunities and economic benefits to Xinjiang. With the advancement of the project, a large number of high-quality talents will flood into Xinjiang, injecting new vitality into the local economic and social development. At the same time, the construction and operation of the project will also drive the development of related industries, form a virtuous cycle, and lay a solid foundation for the sustainable development of Xinjiang.

Conclusion:

On this magical land of Xinjiang, rows of photovoltaic panels shine brightly in the sunshine, and wind turbines dance with the wind, transforming the gifts of nature into clean electricity and illuminating thousands of households. With the increasing global emphasis on energy transformation and green low-carbon development, Xinjiang will continue to leverage its advantages around the "eight major industrial clusters", strengthen exchanges and cooperation with central enterprises and well-known domestic and foreign enterprises, and jointly promote the high-quality development of Xinjiang's economy and society.
